Me, D'oh?
Description
Me? D’oh! is as much about word play as it is about the rhythmic melody that uses the solfeggio syllables “mi” and “do” to create a clever musical pun and a tongue-in-cheek expression that reflects a disgruntled response to a sharp and accusative question. Molded to the swing era this work echoes the style of Glenn Miller as it highlights the good-natured jazzy banter between these musical syllables, emphasizing the different features inherent in each section of the ensemble at different times in the music. With its compelling momentum, Me? D’oh! is a snappy and light-hearted jazz piece that affords a great opportunity for young ensembles to play more individualized parts and build confidence in playing in the style of the great swing era bands of the 1920s and 1930s.
