Lydia Consilvio

DR. LYDIA CONSILVIO is an oboist, arranger, and music educator. As oboist and recording artist, she has collaborated on numerous projects including performing both oboe and English horn for Hannah Lash’s original composition, “Requiem,” on the Yale Choral Artists and Philharmonia Orchestra album Statements, part of the American Classics series produced by Naxos Records. She was an oboist on the album Music by Jonathan Leshnoff with Oklahoma City Philharmonic playing Leshnoff’s Violin Concerto No. 2, also produced by Naxos Records and featuring violinist Noah Bendix-Bagley of the Berlin Philharmonic. As a member of the hip-hop and classical music fusion band Classically Dope, Dr. Consilvio can be heard on the “Militant” single. Notably, part of her recording of Pasculli’s “Le Api” appeared on the “Telling the Bees” episode of the popular BBC Radio 3 broadcast series, Between the Ears. Dr. Consilvio released her debut album, iridescent: J.S. Bach Keyboard Partitas arranged for Double Reeds, featuring quartets she arranged for two oboes, English horn, and bassoon that were published by Songburd Music (Learn more about this project here).


Dr. Consilvio has played with a variety of orchestras, including the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Chamber Orchestra, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. She also performed for an outreach concert headlining the performances of Yo-Yo Ma and Esperanza Spalding, and performed Albinoni’s Double Oboe Concerto with Principal Oboist Roger Cole of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra during a stint at the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy in British Columbia, Canada. Additional appearances include the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival sponsored by Yale University, the National Orchestral Institute + Festival hosted by the University of Maryland, and an artist residency held at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute. Dr. Consilvio also performed one of her arrangements at the 2022 International Double Reed Society conference in Boulder, Colorado.


Dr. Consilvio served as Visiting Lecturer of Music (Oboe) at the University of Oklahoma (2021-2022) and taught masterclasses at Western Carolina University, the University of Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University, Festival Internacional de Música de Cámara Guatemala, and the University of Texas Arlington’s Double Reed Day as the Oboe Guest Artist.

Dr. Consilvio holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in oboe performance from the University of Maryland, where she was a member of the Fellowship Wind Quintet. She received her Master of Music degree from Yale University and graduated as a Rogers Scholar with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, earning also an Arts Leadership Certificate.
